Went with an AR type stock combined with AK grenade launcher buttpad.
Hogue grip.
And improvised peepsight / ghost ring on the rail.

Would look good with a shorter barrel and muzzlembreak on.
Like the look of the stock and pistol grip but wonder how good the cheek positioning will be,

Stock position is perfect for the ghost ring setup I have.
The grip transforms handling - much more adhesive in terms of hold. Softer rubber compound etc
Have considered chopping it down a little and adding muzzle brake. But, it functions perfectly as is and I have heard that shortening the barrel can reduce the amount of gas passing through the piston / speed of gas and adversely affect functioning. Not sure what to do.
To be honest, even fast double tapping is easy without the muzzle break.

What's the difference betwixt the Vepr and Saiga 12 shotguns? Just the lack of wood ?

Saiga12 based on AK receiver and built by Izhmash (now called Kalashnikov Concern) and Vepr12 is built by Molot and are based on a thicker (1.5mm rather than 1.0mm) RPK receiver.

So, similar design, but beefier manufacture?

Pretty much, I personally would take a Vepr over a Saiga. Its a shame we can't have the carbine length versions they have in the States.

Any thoughts as to how it compares with the Bora 99?

I would take either a Vepr or a Saiga over a Bora!......it would be like comparing a 1.8 Mondeo to a Rs Cosworth.A Vepr or Saiga are built to last a lifetime (Kalashnikov heritage remember) whereas a Bora is built as a low price semi auto and doesn't feel anywhere near as solid and robust. This isn't a criticism of the Bora, just that I believe you get what you pay for and I personally would pay more for a Vepr or Saiga in the knowledge it would take more use/abuse and keep coming back for more.

I have handled both. The Bora is a lot lighter and feels very plasticky in comparison.
The Vepr has a last round bolt hold open - not sure the Saiga has. And a release button right next to the trigger so makes reloads that little bit faster.
The Vepr has a self regulating gas system which they say is better than the Saiga.
The Vepr has an ambi safety where the Saiga does not.
The Vepr has been adopted by quite a few NATO forces where the Saiga has not been adopted by any.
Vepr has a traditional "mag straight in" magwell where the Saiga has a "rock and lock" similar to L1A1 or AK etc
And I have quite a few spare mags.................................
