I've read this story before, it's extraordinary.
Did you know that the British pressed the Japanese army into working for them to maintain order in S.E Asia for a period immediately after the war ended.

DM, I read some reviews on this book last year, around October time. The biggest complaint seemed to be that the book got a little bogged down with the individual histories of the people who were there and of the schloss itself. The review I read said it took too long to get to the actual fighting chapters and that the ending was somewhat flat.
Saying that though I've never read the book so it might just be to your tastes. Only one way to find out I guess.

I am aware of the event however I have never read the book, I am surprised it has never been made into a film as it smacks of a Hollywood epic.
