Does anyone know if current gen Mossberg 500 magazines are welded/pinned on?
Mid-term, will be looking to upgrade to S1.

I have a feeling they're glued in...or just screw threaded.
Maybe better searching on a US shotgun forum as you'll not be the first person that ever wanted to change magazine tube on a 500

I'm sure I've read that's it's a pain to do the 500, most swap to the 590. I'll see if I can dig out the thread I was reading
I don't read my own signature!

I would have gone for the 590... but for that daft-looking barrel extension.
I'm pretty certain it's threaded but might be a gunsmith job to get it off.

They maybe silver soldered on.
You could contact Steve Pike at shield email him on
steve@shieldshootingcentre.co.uk as he seems to be a fountain of knowledge with anything to do with shotguns and PSG, he may not reply straight away as they are building the stages for the Hardy comp at the weekend.

Still no further with this. I'm sure I've read somewhere that S2 magazines must be permanently attached (which is part of the proofing process). I'm in the market now for a JM 930 Pro (again, S2 for now) and have been advised that the magazines can be changed when I want to increase and go to S1. Well... not if it's permanently attached, surely?

Why not get a variation in now for a S1 shotty - I got one on an initial grant, no reason not to if you can prove a need etc.......
I think you'll be better off if you get an S1 straight off, the shotgun will be under warranty etc - whereas you get an S2 (not sure if you can get an 930 as a S2) and then modify it to S1 and I'd wager the warranty is busted.
As it happens I bought a 930 JM Pro from York Guns at the shooting show this year - one thing to check if you do go S1, is that the mag tube is properly screwed in. Mine was a couple of threads short - so the 3rd and 4th cartridges always jaammed. Tightened the mag up and the problem went away.
Therafter this gun has been faultless.

I could but not sure yet whether I want to go down the PSG route due to the expense.
Want the 930 Pro but there's little point if an S2 can't be 'upgraded' (which I'm certain it can't be).

They can be upgraded, by permanent they mean that they can't be swapped out without the assistance of a specialist, i.e. a gunsmith. It's acceptable that the mag tube is held in with loctite as most are.
Just check that whatever you buy has unrestricted mag tubes available and in stock somewhere.
