Cawdor 09/03/14

First shoot of the year at Cawdor today. Initially I didn't think I was going to be able to make it as my son (Tomas) was skating in the first Open Competition of the year in Ayr, however as he skated on Friday (and won! :shakeshout: ) I was going to be back in time to shoot today - bonus!
I was planning to only shoot at 100m, so I took Tomas along along with the Destroyer (9mm Largo) for him and the 257 and Carcano for me. This was the first he had been to Cawdor and the first time he'd shot the Destroyer at 100m. Shooting off a sandbag, he was consistently hitting a fig 11 sized target - not bad considering he was aiming off and shoots left handed. I just might have to get him his own rifle.
I on the other hand was just doing some testing. The 257 now has the flash hider from a FN FAL on it (temporary measure and because I could! ) and I wanted the see how it affected the zero. It threw the zero down about 8 inches, which annoyed me and made it sound a lot louder - which probably annoyed everyone else! I also wanted to test some trail boss loads for the 257 - 75gn bullet over 17gn of trail boss. It was a very sweet load to shoot and could have shot it all day, but I need to get it over a chrono and test for accuracy.
The Carcano shot well but was playing silly buggers and not feeding from the en-bloc clips.
I need to find out what the problem is and sort it because it's a fun rifle and shoots standard 6.5mm bullets pretty well. Today I was using 110gn PPU bullets over 30gn of Varget which did the job once I got the sights sorted and worked out where to aim off.
All in all a pretty good day, looking forward to the next one in April!
