I've finally got my hands on a Taurus .45 LBR, and would prefer to run it with .45 Auto Rim ammunition, rather than .45ACP, to avoid messing around with moon-clips. However, a browse around the internet has not revealed any source for such cases; Starline USA are out of stock, for example, and not taking backorders, as is Midway.

Anyone got any they wish to sell, or know where any can be found?

Isn't it possible to just trim down some .45 Long colt cases - Needs must, there's often a way round these problems.

I found that suggestion on another forum, but the consensus was that it wouldn't work. And since I'd like 500+ cases, it would be quite a bit of work. I can use 45ACP cases with clips as a stop-gap, but long-term, I'd prefer 45AR. Thanks for offering a way forward, though -- I might have to give it a go in a while.

A lot of .45lc brass has a dimple half way down its length, that's .45 acp cut off point, get hold of some of these and you're sorted!

.454 casul cases are the same too I'm told....

Got hold of 500 Starline 45Auto Rim, finally. If anyone needs a 100 or so, I would be able to sell some of mine (unused) on...

I will be interested to see if they fit.
I had a Taurus in 45 acp and the AR brass wouldn't fit.
I cut down some 45 colt cases.
I also found standard metal moonclips were too thick and a friend skimmed some down for me.
I do have 50 AR cases and the about a 100 cut down colt cases left over.
Also quite a few moonclips and two de mooning tools.

I just bought a .45ACP Taurus (LBR) yesterday too!

I'm kinda new to wheel guns but I've got nothing but admiration for the guys I occasionally see on the IPSC circuit working them over a medium & long stage.

I'll be mainly using mine for service pistol but hope for the occassional UKPSA or NRA PP match so on the question of moon clips there seems two schools of thought, having the clips ground to suit the gun or the cylinder smithed to fit clips? Any info/advice?

I'm also interested in peoples views on going for a double action only trigger job, pros & cons etc...

My (limited) research has led me to believe cost of factory ammo is around £40 per 100 mark for .45ACP. Once I've got some brass it'll be home loads after that.

Very much looking forward to stepping up into the Majors!

I always think its better modify the clips rather than the gun itself, less permanent that way. I seem to recall Alan Westlake did a few mods with Taurus LBR's besides turning them into nitro muzzle loaders. One mod was the same as what happens with the buckmark. Tune the barrel down, then sleeve it with aluminium and give it a brake. Means you're relying on a red dot or newly fashioned sights but it reduces weight a bit. I don't think he's done more than two. Buts its a great mod in theory and practice.

I (briefly) had a .45ACP Taurus (it was 2nd-hand, and the indexing jammed every cylinder or so), which would work with the R+P .45AR cases I had to hand at that time -- all 24 of them. However, I made up 6 dummy rounds and sent them to someone esle with a Taurus .45ACP, and they found they could not close or rotate the cylinder. So it appears there is some variation from gun to gun.

My .45AR is destined for another gun than a Taurus, and no-one I know has a Taurus .45 at the moment, so I can't help more, I'm afraid.
