Can anyone please give me some information about an old 12 bore shotgun hammer gun in poor condition I bought recently.
It has the name "Holland" ( not alas Holland and Holland) stamped on it.
The proof markings on both barrels are: 12 over C in a diamond, a crown over a "V", a crown over a "GP" combination, the number 18 (or 13, unclear)the words nitro proof and the words 1 1/8 oz maximum. One barrel has choke on it.
Thanks

Welcome!
Why not introduce yourself on the new members forum.
Also take some time to familiarise yourself with the various forums and their content.
In relation to your question photographs would help immensely.

Welcome to the forum, I have a couple of books on British Proof marks and with a picture can hopefully match something up.
The mark 12 over a C was introduced in 1887 and indicated the gauge at the chamber so it is a 12 bore/Gauge. The crown over V was first seen in 1875 - A picture will make it easier to decipher things.

Thanks for your replies.
Having done a bit more research myself I can now see "H Holland" inscribed on each side of the stock Could this be the first Mr Holland before he joined with his nephew I wonder? I can also see a circle with the word "patent" and a number 755 inside it.
