Must admit to being a novice at casting anything below about 450 grains and 0,45" but I took delivery of a new NOE mould recently and have been itching to give it a try.
After seasoning the mould and giving it a good clean I fired up the pot and had high expectations of a batch of quality boolits.....how wrong can you be, they were shoite. Worms, improper fill-out and sticking in the mould :cool2: :cool2: :cool2: Time to give the experts a call.
After a few tips from Dromia and a new book to read (also courtesy of Adam) it was time to have another try.
What do you reckon?
Hopefully tomorrow night I will get a chance to try out my modified lube sizing die and homemade M type neck expanding die.
I am sure Adam will keep you right how are you making your home made expanders. I am making expanders to fit the Lee expander die they are working out quite nicely. Sizing dies for the Lyman lubesizer is my next project.

Its still in the experimental stage but I have turned down a piece of 10mm 316 stainless to fit a Lebel 8mm decaping/neck sizing die and basically copied the profile of the M die to suit the boolit in the photo. I left the portion of the shank that goes into the locking nut long so that it can be adjusted up and down to suit.

It is a Lee bottom pour pot but I got peed off with it dribbling and the varying flow rate so I put a screw up the spout and removed the tap / lever. I now use a Lyman dipper (the 3/4 round jobbies). Pouring is an area where I was making a mistake-I was pouring from the dipper into the mould and was getting worming, but since I now tip the mould over so the sprue plate starts vertical and the nozzle of the dipper is pushed up to it, the worming seems to have disappeared
The first 12-15 out of the mould went straight back in the pot but after that there were very few rejects and most of those were down to lack of co-ordination by the ham-fisted operator
The beauty of using the Lee expander body and making the spuds to fit is that it doesn't need threading as it does for the Lyman type bodies.
I have made a couple of expanders for the Lee expander die they work quite well. Here are some pics of the last one I made I use it for the 7.62x39. It actually free floats in the die so it centres it self in the case mouth.
