Bora 99 : Am I missing something?

I'm thinking I'd like to give PSG another go. Tried it a couple of times with borrowed guns (pump and SA) but didn't really get on with it. Tried a comp at Shield and came last as I spent most of the comp desperately reloading and to be honest felt a bit beaten up by the gun by the end of the comp. I'm vertically challenged (5'4") and shotties feel huge for me.
The answer to that like all things is get a gun that fits and 'practice, practice, practice'. Not easy to do when borrowing guns.
So buy a basic set up that's right for me?
Cheap 2nd hand SA £300? A fast reloading belt rig £100-£200
OR for not much more money a new Bora 99 and 3/4 10 round mags (Max fun/minimum reloading)
Seems like a no-brainer to me so I must be missing something but what?
Any thoughts or comments from the experienced much appreciated.

Did you shoot your first comp with a section 2 shotgun?

It was a few years ago but since I borrowed it I think it must have been S2. It was my first time with a pump so that didn't help either. It was my first ever comp that was a complete disaster from start to finish instead of just the usual occasional bit of brain-fade.

Yep, it's as simple as that, great fun with emphasis on shooting rather than reloading.

Well that was easy. S1 shotgun variation coming right up then.

Sorry, don't really go online after 'work' hours
Yeah you can't really get much more of a physically draining comp than by using a S2 pump! Lots and LOTS of loading and having to do the guns secondary job for it!
A S1 semi will take most of the effort out of that for you and a box mag semi even more so.
I would caution you about the BR99 though in that out of the box it does have a long LoP (Length of Pull). Its 14.5" with the average LoP being 13.5", an inch doesn't sound a lot but trust me, it makes all the difference, as the ladies will tell you
Mine is too long for me (i'm 5'9" average build) so i'm looking forward to getting a new receiver for it that can take an adjustable stock tongueout Its pretty light before you start tacking stuff on to it though so the weight shouldn't be too much of an issue as long as you don't go daft with accessories. I'm daft BTW
Before buying i'd recommend going to a decent shotgun gun shop and trying as many guns as possible. Once you get one that fits you, measure its LoP (from the trigger to the centre of the butt pad), and keep that in mind when buying your prospective shotgun. Most synthetic stocked guns can be lengthened easily, but few can be shortened without a skilled gunsmiths help. Unless of course you buy one that has/can take an adjustable stock. Wooden stocks are more easily shortened.
One of the main downsides to using a box mag fed shotgun is that it puts you in Open division in PSG comps where the least number of competitors are. If you're just wanting to have a bit fun that might not bother you, and for some it might even be a positive as it means you're far more likely to win your division! But if you're in any way competitive winning when you're the only one, or one of a just a few isn't particularly satisifying. On the plus side, the BR99 and MKA1919 have opened up the accessibility of Open division for a lot more people and numbers in Open are on the rise, F4i had a particularly well attended match recently with 20+ Open shooters

Just wanted to +1 what Mark has said.
But also note, the BR99 can require a bit of tweaking out of the box. Especially if you want the 10rd mags to drop free (or nearly free!)
Spare parts are available (got a replacement feed ramp on the way to me) from Low Mill, but they have to be ordered from Turkey so can take a while to get into the country. But then saying that, spares aren't exactly quick to get for most shotguns in the UK anyway...
A complete replacement lower is in the pipeline from our very own ovenpaa, which will be an improvement over the standard jobby. The standard jobby is fine if you want to have a cheap bit of fun (ooer!) but if you're a go faster tart like Mark and myself (and a few others!) then get your name down for one.
I regularly shoot a S1 Supernova, a S1 Stoeger 3000 and a Bora 99. So I can choose what to shoot for whatever comp I'm entering. Plus shooting the pump has started to give me pains in my left elbow, so am shooting that less. Which is a shame, as it's a dream to load quickly! However, saying that I do love my Bora!
I started PSG with a S2 Hatsan, which I shot for nearly a year, so I feel your pain!

Hatsan make a "youth" model in 20 bore semi. 24" barrel with synthetic furniture and adjustable LOP with spacers. I bought one for my lad when they first came out. A great little gun. The importers reckon they're so much better than Hatsans 12ga version. Said they hadn't had any returned under the three year warranty, but had had loads of the 12's sent back....
Anyway, for sh1ts and giggles, 38 quid got me a new mag tube and extension which will give a light, fast handling, short as possible, reliable and dirt cheap 8 shot 20 bore!!
Next step, making slug for it.....!!
