sign85 I wonder if anyone could give me a modern equivalent of this recipe?
distilled acidified palm oil
Lead soap
distilled resin
Castor oil

I know I can get castor oil!! Plus I think I may be able to substitute olive oil for the palm oil, but could anyone with better knowledge help me here??? I want to try it in a Monkey Tail rifle.

Thanks

I dont know if this is of any use to you...

Lead Soap Webster's 1913 Dictionary

an insoluble, white, pliable soap made by saponifying an oil (olive oil) with lead oxide; - used externally in medicine. Called also lead plaster, diachylon, etc.

And distilled resin....

Meaty!!

Brilliant stuff mate. Searched for ages for that! I thought that distilled resin could be Turps, but I think that confirms it.
Now If I can find some acidified palm oil I'm flying!! sign92

If you want to use a saponified recipe then I suggest you read up on it in Paul Matthews book
I mad some to his recipe and it works well and there's no lead in it
pm if interested in more info

Hi Dodgyrog................... I used to live in Chester le Street AND shoot with St Giles......... small world!!
I have Paul Mathew's book and have used his ideas but I would like to try the No 8 for my Monkey Tail to replicate the original...... just for the hell of it!! Which mixture do you use?? I used the Vaseline/ graphite with much success in the .45/70!
