Random Optic question

Hi all,

New on this site but been shooting for years.

One thing I've always paid lip service to is the "scope height" on all he ballistic calculators.

Question... Where do I measure to on the scope? From the rail up to the scope tube or the "centre" of the scopes bore?

Thanks all.

Measure from the centreline of the 'scope tube to the centreline of the receiver. I tend to measure from the top of the tube to the bottom of the receiver and add some math to give a true figure.

Surely that should be "centre line of barrel bore", shouldn't it?

Mark.

Not really as I would usually expect the barrel to be central to the receiver. Problematical actions to measure in this way would be things lime the AI/AW, M65A and other flat bottomed receivers however the centre line distance can still be determined if two measurements are taken from the receiver.

Using a 6" rule of similar and gauging the centre lines by eye also works OK however it is very easy to over/under estimate which will throw your drops out very slightly when shooting at longer distances.
