.17HMR FMJ's anyone shooting these?

I have been thinking of trading up my CZ452 for a 455 with .22 and .17HMR barrels.
Looking into the cost of 17HMR ammo, I came across CCI FMJ's and this started me thinking that these could provide a low cost round for the 100 yard range. Is anyone shooting these and if so how far out can you shoot them, before they become unstable? Are there any competitions over here for this calibre?
I quite like the 455 with the varmint 16 inch barrel, but I guess I would be better off with as long a barrel as I can get for shooting FMJ's on the range for max velocity.
What say you?

Hello Dawn.
Did you actually find FMJ?
A gunshop told me they are not produced any more.
Also I was told the MOD ranges won't allow them,I'm not so sure on that though.
Bryan.

Hi Bryan. I have seen them on a number of UK web sites. Dauntsey Guns have them on their web site see this link

Wonder why the MOD are sniffy about using them on their ranges? I wonder if you could reach out to the 400 yard point at Llansillin with the correct holdover?

Dawn.
The mighty HMR can reach out to any distance. You should know that by now.
Swampy.
I will check with my club as I thought the velocity restrictions put HMR out of the running.

Dawn, The CCI FMJ aren't bad, depending on the weather they are capable of groups of an inch and under at 100 yards.

They only run at around 2500-2600fps

On fixed ranges, the velocity limit is 1000m/s or 3281fps. So no issues there, nor on muzzle energy funnily enough.

I have the feelers out.
One of our club comittee members is going to ask someone for me.
I know that velocity and energy are ok and we must not use expanding but,I have definately been told in th past that HMR not allowed.
