Vostok CM-2

As usual for me, I've done things bass-ackwards. I've just bought a Vostok CM-2 after seeing it in my favourite gunshop. I traded in my BSA 12/15 for it, coz I can't use the peep sights any more and the Vostok has a dovetail at the rear that I can mount a scope on. The sights are worth more than the rifle was, so they are on that well known auction site at the moment. :D

The CM-2 looks like a decent rifle, but I was just wondering if anybody has any firsthand knowledge of them? It will be +/- 3 weeks before the variation comes through, so I would like to get as much info as I can before then so I know - more or less - what to expect. :D

The bass-ackwards bit? I probably should have asked first and acted later, but hey ho, life would be boring without the odd gamble now and again, wouldn't it! lol

I used to sell these in the early 80's , very accurate , entry level target rifl . Sold quite a few to clubs . They like european ammo rather than USA , if it's been used with US ammo you will need to thoroughly clean the bore before using Eley or other euro ammo . Good guns , very well made.

I had a CM-2 for many years as a prone target rifle - Typically 1970's Russian, solid and dependable but pretty basic. It was accurate with a fairly good trigger. The stock was very basic, probably birch and finished is what looked like congealed treacle.

After several years of gathering dust I got it conditioned for vermin and sporterised it, I chopped and threaded the barrel, extended the stock and fitted a scope rail. It made a really great long range rabbit basher.

There is a small book about the CM-2 rifle by a chap called Mark Trope. I downloaded a copy from amazon onto my Kindle but it looks as if it's no longer available.
