We have two shotguns, oomans, one a pump action Section 1 Yankee thingummy from about 1917 we thinks, and the other an English side by side from 1911. We're thinking of getting another, a Roland Watson side by side boxlock with 30 inch barrels. Can you tell us anything about them ? We like the look of it, but confess we don't know much about shotguns...

*disdainful stare*
We see that most shotguns seem to have 28 inch barrels these days. We're wondering what's wrong, or right, about 30 inch barrels...

It's not length that's important but the way you use it!

Squeaking of size, oomans, should we be thinking of two and half in chambers or holding out for three inches?

Personally I would look for something chambered in 2 3/4 just because there's plenty more choice in cartridges. Unless one is keen on chucking buckshot or slugs at things on the ground, I wouldn't say 3" is necessary. Just my 2p naturally, no doubt I will be contradicted :)

2.5" chambers are fine for game shooting (although 2-3/4" as said , does give you more choice)
I'm a big guy (6'4'') and find I shoot much better with longer barrels , my main gun is 32'' , short barrels I find requires more concentration to keep the gun moving ?
