Got a spare slot for a rim fire .22 ........ was thinking of something special ...
Looked at cmmg and colt and smith Wesson .
People seem to rave about cmmg , what's the difference between that and the s&w or COlt versions of the AR15 ?

Basically the CMMG is the only true AR-15.
The Colt is a glorified air rifle design, converted to rimfire. (A simplistic analogy, but it's about right, I own the HK416 which is the same internals with a different "shell")...
The Smith and Wesson is the best budget model, with decent hardware and compatible with some AR-15 equipment. Not a proper AR-15 lower so you can't easily put a straight pull conversion on top of it like the cmmg, but you get the most bang for buck with it...
The Cmmg is pretty much the way to go if you want to progress the rifle and upgrade stuff at a later date though...

Also lots of different options coming out.
CMMG M4
CMMG M4 T
CMMG M4 HT
Or even source a cheaper secondhand Rifle.

I echo TGs comments, I had a Colt it was ok but they're a pain to keep properly clean and the triggers are unajustable and hard work

South Yorkshire Shooting supplies are selling CMMGs at sensible money now

The CMMG's *can* be a pain in the ass, depending on which magazines you use.
It entirely depends what you want one for. I have a 15-22, and i'm thinking of either getting another (one with a scope, one with a red dot and a short barrel) or a CMMG. Still can't make my mind up though!

When the new Lantac Raven .22 hits the market I'll be selling my CMMG for one of them.
My CMMG has around £1800 invested in it, but it's still a fairly plain forged mil-spec upper and lower and the barrel & bolt combo is cheap as chips in the USA.
