Just thought I'd ask a few questions on this subject.

I've managed to find what looks to be a good club near me and I've got an introduction session coming up next week. The last time I've been shooting was five or so years ago so I'm quite excited to have a chance to shoot again.

I just wanted to ask for any not-obvious tips about approaching the session. I've got firearm safety down and the general principle of behaving decently is something I have covered.

Obviously it differs from club to club, but if there's anything I should be aware of that can be applied on a more general basis, I'd like to hear it!

Take along a pork pie/scratchings to munch with your brew-it will negate any suspicions that the regulars have of a new member

Be honest and listen to and obey the club rules and conventions. Listen a lot, ask questions on anything that is unclear and be interested.

I've been shooting for nigh on 50 years now and everytime I visit a new club I treat it as though it was my first time shooting, difficult but I try.

Each club will have its own way you doing things and as a guest or new starter it is up to you to understand and respect those ways.

If you follow Dromias advice you wont go wrong. Dont feel intimidated thou as the vast amount of folks you meet will be the salt of the earth types. Good luck.

I think the obvious have been covered, generally most clubs are really friendly and welcoming as are shooters for the most part.

We welcome new people to our club and warn them that all they'll need is Ear Defenders and a good sense of humour.

On the subject of hearing protection, get yourself some good electronic ones that allow you to hear normal speach but block out the loud bangs, it really helps when you're trying to absorb info on the firing point.

There have been several threads on here over the years and views varied ( do a search), personally I have Peltor Sportacs.

Agree with the above, smile, ask questions and always say yes when someone offers you a go with something. you never know what it leads to. If in doubt just ask as it's better to be safe than sorry.

You may find the naming conventions and terms used a bit odd which is why it is so important to to ask for clarification if you are unsure of something so always ask questions, never assume anything, be safe and above all enjoy yourself.

Ammunition can be expensive so if someone lets you shoot a personally owned firearm/ammunition it is always good manners to offer to cover the cost of the ammunition, equally I have never come across a shooter who said thanks and accepted the offer.

Offer to sweep/collect your brass after you're finished.
If you leave the place as clean and tidy as you found it, or tidier really and always follow the safety rules you'll be alright.
