"Humane Dispatch" Pistols.

I've just been browsing a few UK internet gun ad sites and noticed that there is a rather large selection of "Humane Dispatch" pistols for sale.
What surprises me is things like a Browning Hi Power 9mm semi and a 6 inch barrel Smith and Wesson 44 Mag revolver advertised for the above use.
The reason being, I would have thought that a single shot or maybe two at most should be enough for humane dispatch. And then considering range probably shouldnt be an issue as mentioned in a thread from earlier in the year, the usage I saw had a range of about half an inch!
Could anyone out there clear up my surprise and confusion?
I've also been thinking..... if it's safe and secure for pistols to be used for dispatch at multiple sites and in full view of the public ... why the hell not for target????!!!!?!?!!! ! !

Pistols: illegal. We Subjects of this great democracy cannot be trusted.
Humane dispatch limited to 2 shots acceptable under law with good reason.
Frankly how you can own a .50 cal and not a .22 target pistol beats the hell out of me.

In my knowledge of people granted variations for humane despatch of deer, most weapons are limited to two shots (cylinder mods in revolvers/pinned magazines in pistols etc.). I know a pig farmer who has a six-shot fully finctional S&W 686 .357 mag revolver, but I believe that's the exception because of special circumstances rather than the norm.
At the end of the day, The law is a ass as Mr Micawber said, and ours is not to reason why.
Until such time as the UK firearms legislation is fully re-worked from the ground up and we have licensing of the man and not the firearms, we're screwed. I don't see that happening soon - do you?

I know of one local 'keeper with an unrestricted Glock. He had no hassle with the police trying to restrict him to two shots.

Presumably that's Inverness licensing office - can't see that being renewed until the "New" regime.

Yes Inverness. By new I presume you mean Police Scotland? Or am I missing something? It was granted by Police Scotland about 7 months ago.

Arrr... That explains it... That fact about limiting to two shots that is.
Thanks guys,
Although.. As the mag on a pistol is not considered a firearrm you could just order a few spares.
Or... Just load one first the put the mag in?

Crikey - that is a surprise then, I assumed it had been granted by Highland Constabulary pre-1.4.2013!
I'd love to know the justification behind that when the norm is 2-shot - interesting.

Pretty sure the two shot restriction is/was a Police imposed thing and not necessarily HO guidelines and has been successfully challenged in court.

Dear Mr Plod,
We would like to request a variation for a Human Despatch pistol.
Yours sincerely,
