As the title says what would you recommend for a fun .22lr plinker.

Budget would be under £1000

S&W 15-22 all day long..

BSA Ralock.

Marlin Model 989M2.

Any BSA/Winchester/Remington pump action.

You'd get all three for less than £500 and have the rest for ammunition.

Winchester 94/22.

K22 long barrelled pistol and a holster & rig - yeah its got a long barrel and a stupid coat hanger but you can set up some simple CoF's and as soon as that beep goes thats all forgotten! Buy some reactive self healing targets and some mini IPSC targets from DAA and you've soon got a set up that'll guarantee big smiles and fierce competition.

Hmm seeing as theres a section in the latest firearms paperwork specifically saying that lbr lbp and s1 shotgun can not be shared I would have to disagree

I'm assuming you're refering to the latest guidance document from the Home Office? I'll re-read it to double check but I don't recall seeing that. You are absolutely correct about the Sec 1 shotgun as the Act only refers to rifles.

A Lbr/lbf is a long arm and not a short arm so under the Act it is exactly the same as any rifle.

Yep.
There is no such thing as an LBR or LBP in the firearms act. It is shooters requesting such after the pistol ban that has lead to this.
Either it is a short cartridge firearm (under 24" or a barrel less than 12") and prohibited, or it isn't.

Sec 13.49
Long-barrelled pistols, long-range pistols, section 1 shotguns and full bore rifles designed or adapted to fire ammunition capable of discharging projectiles at muzzle energies greater than 10,000 foot pounds do not fall within the three Home Office categories of individual’s firearm certificate as long as they have the facilities to use the firearms for target
shooting. Long-barrelled revolvers, long-range pistols, section 1 shotguns and full bore
rifles designed or adapted to fire ammunition capable of discharging projectiles at muzzle
energies greater than 10,000 foot pounds may not be borrowed at a range for use by other club members.
