Hi have just recently started shooting a blackpowder revolver and am in need of some advice.
I am in the process of getting the appropriate licence so I can purchase blackpowder until then I will be using pyrodex p and I was wondering can i use fillers like cream of wheat with pyrodex?
I have also purchased some wonder lube 1000 plus and have found in the cold weather it has gone very stiff, is there anything I can melt into it to make it more smeary?
Thanks for any help
Clive

I used to use tea bags, open up the bags and use the contents inside. My wonder lube never did that. I just warmed it up a bit and was OK to use.

I don't use Pyrodex (I use black powder) but I do seem to remember that at least one of the 'substitutes' specifically said not to use fillers. Nothing on the appropriate manufacturer's website?

Why use a filler?

Exactly my thoughts Adam.
Just push ball down further...?

I had been led to believe that it's better if the ball is seated as close to the end of the chamber as possible to reduce the gap to the forcing cone, not essential I know but better for accuracy.
Does it not make alot of difference?

Not in my experience, the gap from the chamber mouth to the forcing cone is the same regardless how deep the ball is seated, so long as your chambers are in good condition then what difference would the seating depth make?

That makes sense I suppose, do you fill the end of the chamber up with lube or just use a small amount?

I just slap whatever I have to hand that is greasy and non flammable, I'm using udder cream at present because I got a tub from a dairy farmer I know. I have some Ukrainian badger fat on hand for when I run out of udder cream. Lard is about the cheapest and works well, that is my usual go to lube.
Ladies cosmetics cupboards can supply some good stuff for free.
Swarfega was used a lot when people could get it from work.

Wish I hadn't wasted money on purchasing purpose made lube now.
Ukrainian badger fat sounds like rare stuff I definitely might try lard though.
