I picked up my new (old) rimfire rifle on Monday.

The short story* is it started life as a 410 shotgun which I had re-barrelled (thanks to Gordon and crew at Shandwick Supplies aka TW Chambers) to 22lr. However, I wanted it to be something different so I drew inspiration from the Australian prototype No6 rifle http://www.awm.gov.au/collection/REL/05743/


I call it the Lee Mongrel, as there is more than one type of Lee that went into finished product! It's a bit of a brute and weighs in at 3.6kg/7.9lbs which makes me wonder if I should have chosen a different cartridge...but that's another topic altogether, so here is the resulting rifle.


and looking into the reciever and yes it's a single shot.
And just for the record I not claiming it to be anything other than inspired by the No 6. It's just a bit of fun and something different.



*The long story is too involved to go into, but even now there is a twist - as of this morning Aberdeen is now claiming I didn't have authority to acquire! Although, I'm confident of my position, I'm waiting until the mess is sorted before going into the details.

Don't know haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but better than I could shoot it is probably a good guess!

I thought you'd have gone for one of their 'De-lisle' carbines rather than a humble 22!

If I could afford one, I'd have one in a heart beat. He had a whole row of them including a Para version which I couldn't take my eyes off!

Edit: His Garand was there as well - another one I could give a home to!

May turn a currently-410 Fazakerly No.4 shotgun into a DeLisle(21C) at some point in the future.

The (21C) = 21st Century...as the build will take a modern approach to the internal silencing, ie no rubber muzzle-washer/swipe

Good question!

Checked it this morning -

Barrel 18.25" just over 20" with flash hider,
OAL is 40"
Sight radius is 12.25"

Component parts
Bolt and receiver (not matching) are from either a Magazine Lee Metford or Magazine Lee Enfield. The lack of a charger bridge is the main indicator, but as all the markings have been scrubbed I can't be sure either way. The trigger blade is also grooved which is interesting in itself.

Woodwork is cut down Ishapore woodwork, rear sight is also from an Ishapore.

Sight base, sight protectors, and magazine from a SMLE and the front sight/flash hider is from a No5 (or reproduction manufacture).

The barrel is a new Lothar Walther barrel.

That is a handy barrel length and should work well, did you do the hot bluing yourself?
