What scope?

I am now the proud owner of e Remmy 700 VSSF (308). That and my other purchases in the last few months together with ammo and getting my reloading gear together has cleaned me out. I am now Ebaying like mad to fill up my toy fund again.

I need a scope, rings and a rail for the 308 and my questions are as follows -

I am likely to mostly shoot back to 600yds but will start pushing that out further next year. What MOA rail should I get, 10 or 20 and with a 20, can I still get a zero at 100yds?

I fancy a set of lapped rings from Dolphin, any reason not to?

As for scope, target turrets, target dot reticle (illuminated or otherwise) zero stop, enough mag for the distance I intend to shoot and sufficient quality to handle a sunny range (it faces south) I need a scope now that has to be cheap. Thought about Falcon Menace or MTC but would appreciate some FBUK input.

I would go for a 20MOA rail and rings from Viking will be fine. No view on 'scopes though.

20MOA - but yes, you might not be able to zero at 100 yds - encountered this very thing today.

Scope - buy good - like Leupold, Sightron, Nightforce or buy a throw-away ZOS from Fox Firearms. The 8-32 is very useable for £100

Rings & Pic rail? Third Eye Tactical - British made, reasonably priced and as good as any.

Re the Falcon Menace, I have one of their older 3-18 x models and am very happy with it. It has a reticle similar to the new Sightron MOA's or Nightforce NP1.

Looking at the current line up, I can see that the scopes have physically changed a bit, so I am not sure if the current range are made by the same factory or if it is just the Falcon name on another product.

I have to admit that I was a little dubious about the quality of the tracking on a scope of this price, but to my surprise I find that it returns to point of aim every time, so no worries in that area.
I used this scope to get my .308 Rem 700 SPS out to 1200 yards last year and so far have not found it lacking in MOA. I do have a 20 moa base.

I can also give a vote of confidence for the after market service, my first scope had a problem with the wind-age turret and I was pleased to get fast correspondence with the importer. Unfortunately at that time they had stopped making that scope so he gave me an upgrade. Turn around time was very fast and surprisingly painless.

Certainly do not rule this scope out but I will admit that I will be up grading for something with magnification over 30x in the near future. Almost certainly a Sightron 8-32 when they finally arrive from earth quake hit Japan, unless I find a S/H Nightforce NXS for similar money.

Good luck,

DM
