Evening all,

After a some helpful guidance (on here from Dougan - thank you!), I'm looking for some larger front sight posts / blades, adjusting tool and anything else of interest for the M96...

Hi been there done that. I gave up on Swedish Mausers for that very reason the sights. A alternative is a mojo sight do a Google search.

It took me two years to get my M96 properly zero'd; and was well worth the effort...it's very accurate and a joy to shoot.

The first step was to get the load right...that took one season; using a scout-scope to confirm grouping.

The next step was to take the scope off and get the front sight sorted - I got a front post that was slightly too tall, and then over many range days filed it down (also tapered the width slightly) until the point of aim was about 3" below the center-line at 200 yards (for shooting at tin-hat targets) - It was then a bit of trial and error to find out where to set the rear sight for 300, 500 and 600...the correct setting doesn't have to be a perfect match with the numbers on the sight, as long as you remember where it needs to be...

...now it's properly zero'd it's just a matter of learning how much to aim off for the wind...something I'm still learning; but very satisfying when you get it right.

This is what I used to zero the windage on the front sight (...a sprocket puller?):

Getting a workable foresight for these or any military rifles is easy for any with metal work drilling and tapping skills or with access to some one who can.

All you need is a spare fore sight and a suitably long allen headed grub screw.

Grind the blade off the spare foresight, drill and tap it to take the allen headed grub screw and insert said grub screw.

Fit the new foresight and adjust for windage then just screw up or screw down the grub screw to get the elevation on.

When zero'd I just super glue it in place, clever people could also drill and tap the dovetail for a set screw.

I've got standard front sight blades in most heights

I've also got aperture sight sets, aperture rearsight units, front sight hoods, inserts, etc.
All manner of Swedish loveliness (see my sale ads on here for ideas)

The Swedes did not stick with the M96 platform for so long for sentimental reasons.
A great design. A great cartridge.
Add a modern bull barrel and you have what the Swedes called the CG63

Saddler - I've tried searching for your posts in the For Sale section but can't find the front sight blades... which height options have you got and how much would you like for them? Will I need a specific tool to swap out and adjust? (Like Dougan's sprocket puller?!)

Rubber hammer and a punch to pop the sight in and out...sprocket puller or such for 'fine' adjustment...

...hopefully Saddler will have a tall front post for you.
