Forgive me all you old hands if these questions have been asked and answered ad nauseam

I'm applying for my first FAC

I am a member of a local rifle club - completing 3 month probation

Additionally have 320 acres to shoot on

I'm applying for

.22 rifle - target/rabbit
.223 rifle - target/fox
.308 rifle - target

What ammo do you guys recommended I put down on the application for rabbit (.22) & rabbit/fox (.223)?

So far as I can tell the options are:

.22 Hornet
.22 LR (suitable for target too)
.22 WMR
.223 REM

Should I put down for hollow point?

For ammo you would put down ammo suitable for the firearms you've put in for. IE .22lr rifle, .22lr ammo, .22 WMR rifle, .22wmr ammo, .22 Hornet, rifle, .22Hornet, ammo, simples ;) ! Definitely ask for Expanding ammo for the Wabbits & Fox.

Reading my post again I guess I wasn't really very clear what I was getting at

Clearly ammo is matched to the rifle it is chambered for

My question was based around the impression (from reading other people's questions on this forum) that it is not necessary to be too specific when listing the gun you want (e.g .22 rifle rather than .22 rifle(Semi Auto) or indeed .22 (chambered for hornet/swift)). Yet when listing the ammo you wish to purchase/hold there seems to be a requirement to be a bit more specific.

It was in my mind to work backwards from seeking guidance on the ammo best suited for purpose, list that, and then find the appropriate rifle.

My question therefore really surrounds the issue of suitability for purpose

.22 LR is cheap and suitable for target but how suitable for field work? - is there something so much more suitable (for field work) that I need to consider two different rifles?

Also - is there expanding ammo that would fit a rifle chambered for .22LR - indeed is it really necessary for .... wabbit ;) ?

the same question applies to .223

why not put it as you want?

rifle .22- reason target / rabbit
ammo .22
.22 expanding (for rabbit)

rifle 223 - reason target / fox
ammo 223
223 expanding (for fox)

rifle 308 - reason target
ammo308

then decide what type of .22 you want when you have the licence

That seems to make perfect sense

If I do not need to be be any more specific for the purposes of the license then it seems that I've over complicated the application process in my own mind

Thanks for simplifying and clearing things up
