Varmint barrel vs standard

gonna be buying a .17hmr soon and I was wondering people's opinions on varmint barrels .. What are the advantages? Are they worth the weight? Etc

A varmint/heavy barrel is often a benefit to target shooters who frequently shoot long strings in a short time. The barrel doesn't heat as much, which results in a more predictable poi.
For hunting, I don't think there's much of an advantage in a varmint barrel.

A heavier rifle/barrel will help with off-hand shooting as it will slow down the wobble, not a problem off a rest or bipod. Other than that the bullet won't care or know how thick the barrel is.

I have 16" varmint CZ455 .17HMR, shoots very well. Fairly heavy but I shoot rabbits from a rest.

I have a Sako Quad with .22LR and .22WMR barrels for target shooting and I am pleased that I chose the varmint barrel: however it can be a bit heavier than you would appreciate. Not really an issue for target work off a bipod.
