Hi,
I found this forum while researching George Swenson (whom I personally remember from Bisley days in the 1970's - in the tent!) and the Swing rifle in particular for a US forum I belong to.
The name is Gunter, location Rochester, Kent
and I have been shooting at Bisley since 1975, when I came with the Kenya team the first time.
Good memories!
My heydays were the 10 years between 1975 and 85.
Getting old now and things are slowing down - but I like to stay in touch with all things shooting - nowadays made easier by the invention of the 'interweb' and relevant forums.
I used to shoot centre fire target pistol (UIT) until 1997 and then changed to fb rifle (did we have a choice?)
I am a Life Member of the British Pistol Club and a Founder Member of the National Pistol Association (now defunct?)
Who knows - there might be members here who remember the good old days and perhaps we might have met?
Our local club uses both the Hythe and Lydd (military) ranges on the south coast once or twice a month.
Still a good drive from Rochester, but much closer than Bisley, unfortunately.
My gun now (and one of the most accurate I have ever owned!) is a CG63 in 6.5x55 with a Schultz & Larsen barrel from the late 70's which I use with a scope and legs
& handloads - if I do my stuff (rare now! hehe) - it shoots 1/2 MOA

I see a lot of nice CG63's at the auctions & shows in Sweden.
Maybe one day I'll grab one to keep my other 6.5's company

Got a lot of research data on Swedish kit if you ever need me to look anything up?

on another note: you being north of the border, did you know John Glen of Brig o'Turk in the Trossachs?
(shot for Scotland and Great Britain in the 1950's to 70's and was a friend of mine)
still have a signed copy of his privately printed 'Bisley Stories & Others.

Unfortunateley lost contact in about 1980 when I went to live in the US.
He's probably gone to the great camp above now, as he would be about 95 now.

Have recently heard disturbing news that in about 1995 or 96 he was 'done' by the police for a 'firearms offence'?
Hard to believe!
What actually happened? Anyone know?

Aware of the forum, but don't get on it too much as one one the Swedish firearms section moderators seems up there with BabyJane in regard to an issue that popped up about 8 years back. Long story. A small clue would be that I make leather m/41B cheekrests & other Swedish leather accessories, such as m/41B & CG63 slings, etc.

Only been up here about 10 years or so & present plans are to reverse that move & head back to England or possibly Wales.
Some of the more resident residents on here may know what happened to your friend.

On my spare time in Stockholm I trawl the antique bookshops so have a lot of period reference books on Swedish target shooting (FSR) & a lot of the local clubs commemorative handbooks, as they all hit the 100 year mark with the same decade - more or less. Also have some good army issue handbooks from Sweden too...even the police manual for the Rem 870.
Gets interesting being triple the allowed cabin baggage weight limit, then jamming whatever books will fit into the poacher pockets of the Barbour.

...in that case I may end up bumping into them as I've just switched clubs, to East Scotland Rifle Club - who are supposedly one of the main SRA clubs.
No idea when/if I may see them though, as the Edinburgh range that ESRC is based from is closed for the duration!!

yep, have come across the issue - hehe
I like working with leather too - have made a cheek rest for my pre-war german combination gun (16b-7x57) as some previous owner had decided to flatten the 'german cheek' on the stock

do you happen to have any info on the production numbers of the CG63E (for England) in 7.62?

(as you will be aware - just chugging up the numbers of my posts to 15 ! )
