Clay shooting....

Never shot a lot of clays. A dozen times or more over the last 15 years at a proper clay ground, but then a few years back a couple of times a month in a mates field with his own trap, for a year or so. In short, was never any good at it, despite wanting to be. Alway had a half decent clay gun though, but that's probably more to do with being a "gun guy" and an aspiration, than to actually going any good...

So last week a shooting buddy who I also work with and me, headed to a local ground and tried a 70 bird sporting layout. Shot 42. Not only not that good at it, but really, it didn't float my boat. I started to think about what I could replace the clay gun with....

But, because work is mental at the minute and time is a premium off duty, my mate wanted to have a further crack. And with the clay ground being open 7 days a week, we don't eat into family time as they are at school/work....

So we went again today. Tried something different today...... Skeet! Bloody love it! Still sh1t at it, but I've found something that I'm going to give a crack at for the summer months!

Does this mean you want a new gun for skeet? What do you have in mind? semi auto or over and under?

Used my Mossberg 930 JM Pro today. Last week my Blaser F3. Got a skeet and IC chokes for the Blaser so will run that next week on the skeet lay out. I half thought that someone may say something today about shooting a Matt black semi, with a 9 shot tube! But as per ground rules, only ever loaded two. No one batted an eye lid at my gun choice.

I may even try my old sxs hammer gun that had the barrels shortened to bang on 24 inches, so there's no choke at all. I would be surprised if this 50 quid gun and #9 shot doesn't turn into a duster on the skeet range! lol

Which clay ground did you go to?

I'm pretty poor at it too, with similar scores to you..but not tried skeet! Keep meaning to go and dust some clays, just not got around to it..

Mate, Chris and I went to Willow Farm. Really good, despite being crap! I'll give you a shout. We're going to try skeet with a pump gun too! Will have to be quicker than drunk trombone player in a Thai knocking shop!
