I went to my club range a couple of weeks back and sat in the rack in the shop was a lonely looking Armi-Jager AK clone in .22lr.I felt sorry for it so decided to adopt it and give it a new lease of life.Once home it was stripped down and the awful silvery-grey paint on the receiver etc was removed and remedied and the wood furniture sanded and refinished in a more Soviet hue.The skinny looking magazine,which is a 30 rounder, looked a bit odd so it now sits inside a much modified 30 round Tula 7.62x39 Bakelite mag body, I was even able to fit a section of spring along with the floorplate retainer and floorplate.I also made up a cleaning rod as the original one was missing.For an oldish .22 it shoots nicely and doesn't seem fussy on ammo and it certainly looks a lot better than it did.I might have a few more mods up my sleeve but for now I'm happy with how its turned out.

What a lovely job, what are the internals like in comparison to an original AK and can you post some close up pictures?

, the internal design is similar to an original AK as much as possible and it strips in much the same way.Will take some pics when I get 5 mins.

I understand that getting spares like firing pins are a nightmare. My local RFD was trying to get an old AP74 working for me before AR's in .22 were common and it was like rocking horse poo trying to find one. The odd one appears in the US but good luck trying to get it.

If you know a good machinist it might be an idea to get him/her to run you off a couple of spares and also extractors while they are in one piece.

I build firing pins for them occasionally however they seem to vary quite a bit even for the same model so I cannot just run off a batch of a dozen or so. Extractors, I have one that is going nowhere...

I heard that too, fortunately there is a pretty good machine shop in the maintenance department at work so I should be OK.The biggest problem is spare mags, I've seen one for sale but its £100 for a secondhand one.I may keep an eye out for a second gun for spares.

That is a fine looking rifle and I would certainly give it house room
