I've had my M&P15-22 for a few months now. It's a great gun, but I'm getting fed up with the mil spec trigger.

The other guns I use have very crisp breaks in the 3-4 pound range. The M&P is a little creepy and breaks around 7 pounds.

Looking on t'interwebz it seems I have three options. In order of increasing price they would be:

• 1. The "15 minute AR trigger job" - basically fettling the existing components. I'm not sure this would get it down to my desired weight.
  2. J P Enterprises - AR-15 Reduced Power Spring Kit.
  3. Dropping in a complete new FCG.

Just wondering if anyone on here had done any of the above, and could comment on the effectiveness, also any issues with reliability after doing so?

I wouldn't bother with the JP springs. Didn't work very well at all in my M&P, causing light strikes and all manner of operating issues that went away as soon as the springs were changed back. Some really good triggers out there, but they cost.

I've put about 5-10,000 rounds through mine, trigger has a bit of creep but breaks at just over 5lb, doesn't have any noticeable effect on grouping, easily under 3/4" at 25m or around half that using Lapua sub-sonic ammo.

I hate the original trigger on the M&P, and did quite a bit of comparison testing with a shot timer against my Ruger. The timer was showing that the M&P even with the JP Spring kit was a good deal slower shot to shot than the 10/22. So I wasn't planning on buying a Smith.
Then I tried a Smith with the CMC 3.5lb trigger group in a friends M&P. It's blooming brilliant! So much so that it made me want the Smith so I bought one and fitted a CMC trigger to it without firing a shot through it in standard format. So far it's done over 2000 rds in just a few weeks without a single issue. In fact it's now my go to gun for an evening at the club.

And yet I swapped mine out, it dropped the pull weight to 5lb and I've not had a single issue in about 3k rounds.

Not as good as a CMC but still better than the standard- at around £15

Should the trigger light strike with the JP spring kit then its usually a hammer speed/ mass problem. By reducing the spring power you slow the acceleration and resultant 'hit' power of the hammer. This can be fixed quite easily by removing mass from the hammer (cutting off the tail, know as 'Bobbing'). This will deliver a low mass, high speed hammer that works very well and fixes the issue.
Another trick to reduce pull is to add some Moly Grease to the primary sear. Polish that sear too for a smoother break.

A M&P with a 3.5lb single stage CMC is a great little machine, not just the light trigger weight but the very short reset makes it an extremely fast trigger.

I've had mine for over 3000 rounds so far and it's as slick as the day I installed it.

^ I'll vouch for that- when we saw it shoot at WNSC we thought he was firing double shot bursts!
