vepr 12 mags?
I'm getting closer and closer to deciding to buy a Vepr12, but the mag prices are putting me off, especially as someone else has now shown us a possible avenue for the 1919 10 round mags to use in a bora99.
I see there is an american company called SGM Tactical that make very sensibly priced mags, but i can sense an issue with getting them out of the country.
is there anywhere out there that does bigger than 5 capacity mags that aren't more than £100?
or do i just forget buying a vepr, and spend the money on getting and converting a bora?
not being able to shoot either of them before buying hardly helps

Re: vepr 12 mags?
Is it possible maybe to adapt it to use Saiga mags or adapter the mags to work in a vepr? I only say as brownells uk has both sgm and pro mag 10's as well as drum mags for saigas. the pro mags are £34.40 (postage is likey £7) and SGM's for £53.20.bradaz11 wrote:I'm getting closer and closer to deciding to buy a Vepr12, but the mag prices are putting me off, especially as someone else has now shown us a possible avenue for the 1919 10 round mags to use in a bora99.

Re: vepr 12 mags?
yeah, it turns the m4 style straight in magwell of a vepr into a rock and lock style saiga magwell.... I may as well buy the saiga

I think I've seen a few for a sale, give me a sec and I'll see what turns up.bradaz11 wrote:yeah, it turns the m4 style straight in magwell of a vepr into a rock and lock style saiga magwell.... I may as well buy the saiga
Edit: its like waiting for a bus, they just turn up when they do and often when you don't want them.

A VEPR will work straight out of the box and mags can be sourced cheaper from Europe. It helps if you can make a few contacts in Russia when it comes to stuff like mags etc

I use only factory mags in my Vepr 12. The SGM seem to get mixed reviews.
I got them a lot cheaper than UK price.

Re: vepr 12 mags?
I fitted a Russian Magwell to my Saiga 12 years ago.
Swopped the Russian rock & lock mags for a load of SGM 12rds + AGP 10rd mags.
Then converted them to work in the magwell & are drop free.
In all these years not one mag has broke, fell out of the gun when firing or started to miss feed.
No need to worry about dropping & damaging / bending feed lips as it is with the BR99.(I like mine, but mag feed lips are a weak point on the BR99/MKA 1919 style ).
The so called "better" Vepr 12 has a fixed gas system, so its over gassed on heavy loads & may cycle lighter loads.
The Saiga 12 is not finished as well but has a adjustable gas system.

How come no one's tried to import those Catamount furies that have popped up in the US as Saiga alternatives here? Is it because they are chinese? If they could come in cheap enough modding them for cheap Saiga mags would be worth it.
