Hi all,

Potentially looking at selling off rifles (as they don't see as much use as they used to) and just keeping shotguns. I have a semi auto Beretta and would like to get it moved over to the S/G cert. in order to keep it. I understand that it needs to be restricted in order for this to happen.

Is there a place that can do this restriction and approve it, or does it need to go to a separate place for approval?

Hopefully there is a path of least resistance/hassle getting this done?

I know of one that was crimped on the mag tube sent off to the proof house to be stamped then the local firearms dept allowed it to be moved back to SGC.

That is about it, take it someone who can crimp the magazine to two shots, it will then need to be shipped to either Birmingham or London proof house to be checked, they will stamp it up, issue a restriction certificate and send it back. It can then be returned to use as a S2 Shotgun.

Doesn't the magazine have to be pinned or loctited etc to the receiver, if it currently can be unscrewed?

My Browning Gold started life as a 5 shot. Was crimped to sell to me as a SG and then sent back to Browning 10 years later to replace the mag back to 5 when I needed a hi cap for vermin.

Has anybody had the magazine tube crimped in Scotland that they'd recommend?

I would have thought that the gun smith crimping the tube could provide a certificate.
I say this because i thought that proofing was only needed if a pressure bearing part was changed.

Ordinary RFDs probably not trusted to do the work and certificate it but more likely just a money maker for the proof house.

Actually, if you have an SGC I cannot see any reason why you cannot add the crimp yourself, trundle it down to a Proof House as a personal and pre-arranged visit and have the firearm checked and the certificate issued.

It is not something I have ever been involved with so I may be entirely wrong here....

All tube fed shotguns are made section 1 in UK law, as the tube mag will hold more than two rounds.
The maker will crimp the tube but it will still have go to the proof house, where they are tested then stamped as a section 2 shotgun.
An RFD can covert it back to section 1 without reproofing as that is how it was made.
Going back to section 2 it will have to back to the proof house & stamped (cost about £60 + postage + cost of crimping tube)
