Barrel Length - Under Lever Section 1 Shotgun - Norinco 5+2

I have just asked my local FEO regarding the length I can shorten a Norinco 28" down too. I mentioned that they were available at 22" but I wanted to go to 20"

I have read a thread and reply by SimG stating the following:

The Ammendment Act stipulates the combination of barrel and OAL only for pump and semi shotguns, whether S1 or 2. All other S1 shotguns only have to conform to 12/24.

Has anyone got the actual Act and section I show to make my case?

Thanks

No one will be able to show you something that says the barrel of an under-lever S1 shotgun doesn't have to obey the 24"/40" OAL rule or the 12"/24" rule, as its the ABSENCE of that action type (lever-action) from the 1988 Firearms Act that gives the authority. i.e. the act ONLY specifies that semi-auto and pump-action shotguns must obey the 24"/40" rule, therefore any other type of action shotgun does not, whether it be O/U, SbS or lever-action.

Its due to the way English law works i.e. unless something is specifically prohibited it is permitted.

1988 FA:

"(ac)any self-loading or pump-action smooth-bore gun which is not chambered for .22 rim-fire cartridges and either has a barrel less than 24 inches in length or (excluding any detachable, folding, retractable or other movable butt-stock) is less than 40 inches in length overall;"

MARK, See Chapter two section 2.9

This does mention bolt action and lever action as not coming under semi auto or pump action. Took me a while to dig it out.

So section 2.9 clarifies it nicely, lever action under 24 inches is section 1 (which it would be anyway as a 5+2).

Thats guidance, not legislation (you referenced an 'act'). The guidance should do nicely for the FLD though :good:
