HK416 (.22)

Hey guys

Was informed that the HK416 is not quite up to standard, and that the cleaning process can be difficult, thanks to a lack of access to the entire bolt carrier assembly.

What I wanted to know was if people had any experience with this particular rifle, whether good or bad. Also if there is any decent alternatives to this rifle. (I would prefer a black rifle). I know for a fact that these rifles are not made by HK which leaves me a little in doubt as to their quality.

Many thanks

I haven't held one personally and whilst I like the look of them on the web, they're certainly at the lower end of the AR market. As I understand it the black barrel you think is the real barrel is just a shroud and the build quality isn't brilliant apparently. I suspect the general opinion will be to buy a CMMG.

For the money they are, get a S&W MP15

Yeah the S&W range looks and feels great, held one up at leek shooting supplies. I'm a bit ott when it comes to cleaning, like the fact you can break the S&W right the way down

I have one
They are fun and reliable, you do not need to dismantle them do general basic clean.
Youtube has plenty of video guides on how to fully remove barrel and bolt assembly that's how I learned.
The barrel is a sleeve that's runs inside the outer visible one.

One tip is to check that the nuts that hold the bolt assembly are all tight from new

One other point to make is if you feed them copper wash 22LR, you probably don't need to clean it. I gave up cleaning my Spikes Tactical years ago...

Another vote for the 15-22, also having fired both I think the S&W edges it & as has been mentioned, you can add a multitude of aftermarket AR parts.

I can't comment on the HK, but for the money the Smith & Wesson is hard to beat. Great little rifle, which I suspect will some day take over from the 10/22 as the defacto semi-auto rimfire of the masses.

^ pretty much that. I love my Sig 522 as it feels way nicer than the M&P15-22 to me, but if you're looking for go-faster toys then the S&W would be a decent shout. An even better bet would be a Lantac-fettled new CMMG or similar, but they are more cash.

"No-one has ever got fired for buying a 15-22" - paraphrasing there a little but it's a solid, safe, well supported rifle that I don't think many folks have regretted buying.
