Can anyone recommend a red dot for an AR22? Are Vortex any good? Thanks.

Vortex and very good, certainly for the money and the warranty is excellent.

I've had a spitfire and now have a sparc.

They are not the same quality as some of the more military spec ones no doubt but they are extremely reliable from the reviews and torture tests I have seen.

If you can make it to the shooting show, you can gaze through most things, see what you like.

Depends on:

Budget
Type of shooting (target, practical, hunting etc)
Distance to target
Need to co-witness or clear iron sights

And so on.

I've got a Shield mini sight on my pistol which I love to bits and would be a good shout if you wanted something low profile. If you're happy to whack a bit more metal on top then the Vortex offerings are pretty good.

The new Vortex SPARC AR looks pretty good, runs on AAA battery.

Had a good look at the above mentioned SPARC AR last week.
some nice design features, the caps are now concealed behind the plastic so it doesnt catch on anything, the lens covers clip together so they dont flap about and the whole thing just looks nice and sleek.
if I hadnt only just got the SPARC 2 this would be firmly on my 'to buy' list.

Bentley should have one at the shooting show, and their warranty is faultless

Thanks for the replies, lots to think about. It's for practical, plinking plates etc. I've noticed there seem to be two types - low profile one's like the Vortex Razor and traditional scope types like Sparca AR. Why would you choose one over the other? Are low profile ones for pistols and .22lr and others like Sparca meant for larger calibre/more robust rifles?

You can fit a Razor with a riser for an AR, Vortex sell a QD riser for that very purpose. Personal choice really.
