Show us your dog!

After having 15 months off dogs here is our new companion. He is a very pretty fairly dark in colour four and a half year old male Labrador Retriever. He has spent his working life as a gun dog so used to retrieving Pheasants and Ducks however he has now retired. He is an absolute delight to be with and we feel very privileged to have such a capable chap here. Although he is officially retired I will continue to work him when there is an opportunity and in between there will be lots of walks and outings. The last couple of days we have been getting him used to our voices and commands and he is absolutely spot on.

This is Maggie;

She has zero functionality and is terrified of loud noises so she's never been near a range or shoot. She is however hilarious and is our official child substitute. We adopted her as a rescue dog and suspect she was used for breeding and has had little if any socialisation as a puppy. We've been trying to fix that but there is a massive amount of breed prejudice, even from seemingly experienced dog owners, so it can be difficult.

Mark, staffies are excellent dogs, shame about the people who ruin them.

First up Ovenpaa, it's really good news to hear that you've got another dog and such a good choice too!

Ted and Ralph say hello!

Here's my two...

This is Martinel (Marty) he's a rescue from Romania, few scars where he's had a beating as a pup and a nervous wreck. A small fortune in training lessons etc and he's just about there, gentlest most loving dog I've ever come across:

Image

This is Angel, she's a rescue from Cyprus - seriously malnourished when she was first picked up - and still massively under weight when we got her. She's made up for that in short order and is now only a couple of kg's less than Marty who stands circa 5" taller at the shoulders:

Image

These two had a rough start but we're getting what we put into them back in spades, Marty cannot stand loud noises or humans with sticks / bars in their hands (sweeping brush or vacuum head for eg) and Angel had some serious possesive problems with toys and food that we've just about sorted.

What surprises me most - is that I've even had my dogs called "immigrants" as if they're actually coming to steal jobs / white wimmin / benefits, and "there's plenty of dogs over here that......" which whilst true - try getting dogs out of rescue over here when you have small children........
