Fantastic, well done for getting the picture before it scuttled away.

Lizard!
Used to find those under tin sheets lying out in fields and hedges when I was a kid. Tails drop off wriggling if frightened.

I worked in Northern Spain for a while and saw small lizards all the time, so many times I would creep up on them and very quickly slap a hand over them to catch them, carefully opening my hand never revealed one. It was a delight to take my kids back later and watch them doing the same. We never did manage to catch one between us.
I remember them as a lid, along with Fireflies, not seen either in 40 years. We do see common Newts here, we have a wildlife book and used to enter the time and date next to the picture if we saw something unusual or interesting. Looking in it reveals things like Hornets and Newts always show at the same time of year and we have a couple of first sightings of Newts as being in the house.
Nice picture Jenks.

When I get in from work I will post some pictures of some lizards we saw last year.
Our old house had a tiny lean to built round the back door. There was a cardboard box that had holes cut near to the bottom with bits and pieces stored in it. Bnz went to move it and found a lizard and some empty eggs in it. We also had a compost heap and we would get slow worms basking.
We have two black compost bins and have found slow worms and, we think, a grass snake. We have the odd frog too but there isn't any water around.
It is surprising what you can find if you look.

My in laws and my dad are buried in a woodland cemetery. Last year we went for a visit and as we approached lots of lizards darted away. We waited a while and they came back.

Grave yards can be such austere places and yet they can be a haven for wild life. We live virtually next door to a church and look on it as part of our extended garden and the wild life never ceases to amaze me.
