GSG .22LR MP5 why is it on and are you allowed to remove it?

The fake moderator Im talking about. Why is it a shroud and not removable?
Is it possible to remove it and screwcut the barrel so as to fit a real Moderator or are the barrels on these guns similar to the H&K rimfires in that they are like peashooters inside a shroud?
Is the shroud there for "legal" purposes?
Just curious thats all

I believe that in America the legal length has to be 16" and a real moderator is hard or expensive to get. Therefore the mass market has dictated what the shape shall be.

They can and have been cut down in the UK, just not by the manufacturers. Someone posted a picture of one such conversion on here some months ago IIRC.

The barrel runs the entire length of the 'moderator'. There are kits for putting on a moderator - it will require a slot. I have read that there are permanently fixed kits and some say you don't need a slot for that. I don't think that can be right though - maybe if it came from the factory in moderated form ... but even that seems unlikely. I could be wrong.

Originally it was claimed the shroud slightly moderated shots and it had to be addressed for the US market.

As standard it is a peashooter in a shroud as you put it.

Yip...wrong assumption.
Integral sound moderators are not deemed to be anything other than a part of the firearm....so NOT necessary to have separate slot for the mod.
A removable mod. is an item in its own right so exists away from the host gun(s) = slot needed if Section 1, no slot if not S.1.

Saddler is spot on...I've checked with the home office and my local force....you do not need a separate slot for a moderator if it's permanently attached to the gun...

So does the mod count towards barrel length..? could you have a 6'' barrel with a 6.5'' mod, and still be over a "300mm barrel"..?

There is that Whisper LBP thats legal to own without a slot for a mod, what barrel length is that..?

No. Barrel length must be 300mm unless the mod is a permanent fixture like some o the back bored and drilled mods that are welded on and treated as part of the barrel.

No barrel can be section 1 of it's ever at any point less than 300mm, every for five minutes.

Once section 5 always section 5 is a good way to remember it.

The whisper is integrally suppressed and non removeable so always over 300mm.

So I take it the barrels on these guns cannot be screwcut due to the diameter of them and the only option would be a slip over mod held with grub screw?
Are there any other manufacturers that make a rimmy MP5 but of better quality?
I'm fancying one to be honest but would like better quality than the GSG/H&K/Umarex etc ;)

Sorry, yes, i meant a permanently fixed mod... what I was trying to get at is that you don't need a 300mm barrel then a mod screwed on the end, as long as the barrel and permanently fixed mod are over 300mm in total...
