Hi guys,

I've just got my FAC and been reading up and I think the CZ452 would be a good starter for me. My two local shops have one in each, both have scopes and are threaded for mods and are at the same price. Just from the info provided can anyone judge which is the better gun to get. One is a 'standard' and one is a '2E'. I honestly have no idea of the difference!

Thank you

Tom

The one at York Guns is in .22WMR, not .22lr, they're different calibres. .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfirm is way more powerful but has a trajectory like artillery! Its also much harder to come by and far more expensive.

You DO know that one of the above is .22 Magnum?

I'd keep an eye out for the older BRNO Model 2 rifles over the Cz offerings.
Same guns, but CZ re-branded the Model 2 as the 452 when they took over the CZ firm.

You can pick up suitable Model 2 rifles for around £100, sometimes with scopes
Had mine for about 30 years and only sold it as I wanted the earlier Model 1 instead

C452 American with the 16" threaded fairly heavy profiled barrel. Nice beaver tail style flat forend to the stock.
The 452 is a much better rifle than the later 455 models. However you may have to be patient. They are not that common.

There are a hundred 452s on Guntrader at the moment - they're pretty common!

Model American with the shorter barrel not as common as the longer skinny barrelled models.

The American is the mid weight barrel. The varmint is heavier.

If you include the Silhouette too (American in a synthetic stock) there will be 50+ in the country...

Either way, plenty to choose from - I don't think I've been in a gun shop that didn't have a number of 452s for sale :)

Loads of choice in .22LR so head to your gun shop and have a good look and see what feels right in your hands.
Also worth speaking to your fellow shooters as people may have rifles they are looking to sell and of course may let you have a shot or two to see if it works for you.
I was going to go down the 10/22 route but glad I didn't as I just cannot get on with that gun at all (perhaps I need a different stock) so went with a Buckmark instead.
All that said one of the club rifles at the club I shoot is the CZ452 which is a very fine rifle and as said above there are lots of bargains about :)
