Moving a gun from SGC to FAC

I'm just starting getting into Practical Shotgun and currently have a Winchester 1300 on my SGC.

If I continue to enjoy the sport I'd consider getting a mag extension and converting the gun to Section 1.

So my question is about the process. Obviously I'd need to get a slot on my FAC before doing anything.

Assuming the Met accept my good reason and I do get the slot, I could go ahead, purchase and attach the mag extension.

at what point does it become Section 1 - when I buy the extension, or when I attach it to the gun?

And at what point must the paperwork be done, and who does it? Is it the vendor who sells me the extension who fills it in (even though I already own the gun)? or do I enter the gun on my FAC myself?

Just a bit confused as it's not like the usual process.

The extension isn't controlled - free to buy.
What you will need is an RFD to remove the crimp from your existing mag tube.
That takes it from sec 2 to sec 1.
He will fill in your fac.

Excellent, thanks!

So removing the crip myself is not an option?

ANYONE can remove the crimp.

In such cases it's common to ask for the S2 gun to be added to your FAC, the "transfer" being a paper exercise carried out by the Firearms Department....as you already physically possess the gun. They'll take it off your S2 list & add in on your S1 list.

They're not bothered who does the conversion, as long as your FAC is updated.

This.
I did it to my Rem1100 back before I had an RFD.
Filled in my FAC and notified the police that I had done so. Easy.
