It even has a reference number . L144 A1 .

There are a small number of these 'spare' and can be ordered via your local RFD from the importer. Come with hard case etc.

Nah....will stick with my nice little BSA Meteor Cadet.
Poor decision to go "Foreign Made" & not Buy British - or European.

"Buy British"? What contender do we have for such a rifle? And a European made rifle is exactly that, foreign....

Exactly, if the Cadets were buying a Shotgun then maybe there would be a realistic British supplier. Target rifles are a niche section of the UK firearms industry. Dare I say it almost a Cottage Industry...
This kind of contract will be for rifles plus spares and support. There are some volume manufacturers of Air Rifles like BSA and Air Arms that could in theory step into the .22lr target rifle market but it probably isn't worth the investment and even if they did it would probably be a re-badge of a Turkish gun.

EXACTLY
Buy British isn't an option - due to gov't legislation & lack of support to the industry!
Isn't H&K still partly British owned though??
Their little HK270 model was very nice, just never got one when they were in the P-H catalogue!
& I'm sure a dedicated SA80-22 would not be THAT difficult to make.

H&K hasn't been in British ownership for some considerable time now. I believe that the preferred option was actually an Anschütz rifle, but Savage won through in terms of cost as so often happens.

"A limited number of the rifles will also be available to the civilian market, making them highly collectable."
But, the government won't work this the other way around and sell the No8 rifles to civilians as they seem to be weapons of mass destruction.
What a load of old $hit

Ah - normal military contract outcome = lowest bidder wins!
Would LOVE a No.8 as I learned on them back in the ATC
Sacrilege that they'll be chopped up - outright state vandalism!!
...there's more risk to public safety from the thousands of ex-mil vehicles that the MoD sells off...

There;'s nowt wrong with a Savage rifle - I have had nothing but good luck with then, and their centre fire rifles are much prized for accuracy and a very reasonable cost. Our Cadets ended up with a Mossberg (following a disastrous procurement of Norincos - which are now DP only).
Agree though that it is a real; shame to lose-out on being able to buy one of the No 8s. We sold ours off to the public here in NZ, and they were supposedly very popular sellers.
