Took my 10 year old to A1 Guns near Swansea today to do some airgun shooting - she loved it and we had a really nice few hours in a very pleasent setting...... :good:

Anyway, sort of thinking about getting her her own air rifle (we borrowed one from A1s today) so had a look online as my airgun experience is very poor.

Quick Google and found what looks like a good guide to airguns at http://www.thefield.co.uk/shooting/airg ... -buy-27482

Quick scan of the online guide and read: "We also have expert Mike Yardley’s opinion on modern airguns." :bad:

Bugger......guess I'll have to keep looking for another guide then.......

Drop them an email and let them know why you won't be buying from them :)

I wonder if Yardley has suffered with all this negative publicity yet.

I shot a .177 Air Arms S200 this week and it was impressive at 50m and a delight to shoot, quiet with no recoil and light to handle as well. Accuracy was superb.

Be careful in what you do or even say:

The law prohibits anyone under 14 from "buying, hiring or receiving as a gift an air weapon or its ammunition" and they can only shoot with full adult (over 21) supervision.

You need to buy one that she is able to use.

OR Get an FAC rated one where the above should not apply!

edit to add:

Have a look at https://basc.org.uk/firearms/airgun-gui ... ct-sheets/ under Crime and Resources Act, it puts the rules in plain English.

Polchraine - understand completely. My wife and I had a 'discussion' **** about my youngest shooting....end of the story is any rifle I get will be locked up in the cabinet with my guns and she'll never have access by herself until she's at least 32 years old 8-)

My wife and daughter have accepted that I will take my grandson shooting when I believe he understands the safety implications - so maybe around 8 yo. I will buy myself a nice little short stock, short LOP, lightweight 28g that he can use.

Just remember that when you buy an air rifle make sure you state that it is for YOU to own and your daughter to USE. If you do not, a dealer could rightly refuse to sell to you.

I have an Air Arms S410 and find it wonderful to shoot, the 10 shot magazine makes it much more fun than the club S400 single shot rifles.
