Is anyone on the forum shooting .22LR Bench rest and if so can you tell me a bit about the rules, weights, rests etc and thoughts on ammunition please.

We shoot bench. When my wifes arthritis makes it hard to hold her Ruger, bench keeps her shooting..

Hrun, I am confused now regarding P22 versus pictures of 22BR being shot in the UK, can a rear bag be used and a traditional BR/F Open machine rest be used?

The comps we shoot are NSRA and have to run to the link. No rear bags allowed.

The NSRA rules are completely away from the International rules and can hardly be called true benchrest
Machine rests are the rule as are rear bags however some postal comps do not allow the rear bag.
To be honest you can shoot maximum scores with or without the rear bag but the front rest (in my opinion) makes the discipline really challenging and satisfying.
I see that the NSRA comps are poorly supported by serious shooters and most shoot under UKBR22 and International auspices.
Disciplines include.22 Sporter, Light Varmint and Heavy Varmint at 25 metres indoors and outdoors at 50 metres.
Air rifle 25 metres indoors and 50 metres (outdoor only again) are also shot.

I retract my previous post.. we do not shoot benchrest.

In all seriousness, I am glad I posted as the responses are interesting.

We shoot under the Yorkshire benchrest rules - it's a postal comp open to everyone. Definitely one of the most popular in the U.K - currently 40 divisions (240 shooters) within the league, so everyone has a chance of medals, wins etc.

The cards are good too, much better than the nonsense that the NSRA currently use (see previous discussion...)

I've only put together a rifle this winter and am no expert, but have scored 100+4 and 100+5 a couple of times (like a 10-x or a v-bull really)
