I've spoken to a few American service personnel who don't like the beretta, so I'm sure this will be a welcome change.

FROM THE ARMY TIMES ARTICLE:

Half a decade into its search for a new handgun, the Army has chosen Sig Sauer’s version of the Modular Handgun System, according to a Thursday announcement from the Army.

The new sidearm will replace the M9 Beretta, the Army’s pistol of choice for more than 30 years.

“I am tremendously proud of the Modular Handgun System team,” said Army acquisition executive Steffanie Easter in the release. “By maximizing full and open competition across our industry partners, we have optimized private sector advancements in handguns, ammunition and magazines and the end result will ensure a decidedly superior weapon system for our warfighters.”

Unfortunately the NZDF chose Glock too - based entirely on the recent UK trial results. Not what I would have chosen. My wife has a Glock 17, but I have never liked it, and would never buy one for myself. Also never a Beretta M9 fan, so this US choice is good news.

I would have thought the Glock would be fine as a service pistol !

I have used both 9mm and .45acp versions. Simple to use, basic and reliable.

Breacher,

Never said there was anything necessarily wrong with the Glock - I just don't like them. My absolute first choices are steel-framed pistols, preferably ones which can be carried cocked and locked.
