This pre-owned AK still worked when taken off a poacher in Africa
I wonder who was stupid enough to find that out?

I was asked the same question when I test fired a hand made / home made Kyber Pass AK !!
It worked just fine. On full auto

I've seen some of the Pakistani/Kyber Pass back yard rifles, and I certainly wouldn't mind having a couple of 'em in my cabinet. Them's definitely not Holland and Holland quality, but I've seen a lot worse.

Seen a few Khyber Pass AKM's where they have even copied the Izhmash Arsenal stamp and Cyrillic selector markings.
Bin Laden with a Khyber Pass AKM fitted with the rear trunnion and side folding stock from an AK-74

Milled receivers rule, your stamped metal AKMs would have dissolved by now in the same "storage" circumstances as the one in the link.

The Khyber I tested was a milled receiver - though milling was an overstatement. It had no blueing.
It was a "homage" to the short SU.
It was marked "shourt special" and "automatik" and "7.65mm" ( but was definately 7.62x39 )

When I was doing land mine clearance in Cambodia, one of our guys put together an AK47 he made from bits and pieces he found with a metal detector in various minefields. It looked like hell of course, no wooden bits left, but it functioned just fine. Accuracy was - well, dismal.

An AR would have turned to dust long before either the stamped or milled receiver!!!
