Beginners club around Manchester

#1 Post by fenix »

I try to gently promote shooting on a couple of forums, one of them has a few shooters on it so I tend to get some chat if mention shooting. I have been sent a PM by somebody that is interested in giving shooting a go, but its totally new to him, he lives in Manchester but is happy to travel. Has anybody got a club suggestion for up that neck of the woods that's suitable for a complete beginner? Probably best if they have a structured training program, other option would be a club that has an open day where there is somebody to have a chat to

Cheers

Jon,

I live in South Manchester and have been a member of Marple Fullbore Rifle and Pistol club now for just over a year, it's a smallish club but we have a strong membership and currently are taking on probationers.

It's a great club and very one is friendly, there is also a local RFD that visits weekly.

Let me know if you want anymore information.

As stated above there's Marple but also the following:
Warrington & District Pistol & Rifle club
Bolton
Rossendale Fussiliers
Diggle ranges
Warrington rifle & pistol club
Bury
There's still one in Worsley I think?
Macclesfield
They'll be more but that's all I can recall at the moment.

Also it's worth noting if you they are wanting to shoot smallbore, fullbore or both, some of the clubs cater for both some are smallbore only.

There is also the Tameside Shooting Sports Association Ltd ( A private company limited by guarantee owned by the members)
on Manchester Road: Mosley
The range is an ex Army Drill Hall suitable for .22 / Gallery Rifle and long Barreled Revolvers and LB Pistols.
They meet on a Wed and Fri Night and have an airgun section that meets on a Sunday,
For fullbore rifles we hire range space as and when required.
TSSA LTD is also a Heritage Centre for Sec 7,3 Pistols.
By all means contact me for further details

I learnt to shoot at Chadderton Rifle and Pistol club http://www.chadd-rifle-and-pistol.co.uk/ A very helpful club, which can offer clays, small-bore (indoor 25m) and full-bore pistol calibre (indoor 25m). I am no longer a member since I wanted to shoot beyond 25m, however, an ideal club for a beginner.
