Anyone else here with a Jim Greathedd underhammer in .40?
Looking to see what loads others use as I'm not getting on well with it at all
I can do much better with my Le Page so it isn't just me!

Have to say that they never suited me, the lock time is supposed to be quicker with underhammers but in my case it made no difference, interesting guns and well made just didn't do it for me, aesthetically, functionally or on the target.

Always fancied one and I do like the look of some of his builds, just never shot one or found one at a reasonable price.

I have one in .32 and it would be fair to say it was fussy! It is superbly accurate with the right load (in my case a .311 ball, 15 thou patch and 9 grains of Swiss 1). What's interesting is that with that load alone accuracy is awful - the ball seats too far into the chamber and almost blocks the flash hole. However, add a 9mm case-worth of semolina over the powder and it is absolutely transformed. I've no idea whether the .40 might have a similar issue?

Thanks all. Had tried a wad but will give semolina a go.
I too have found it very fussy on patch thickness. I also find the grips a bit small for me.
I'll give it a few more experiments. If no luck it may well go on sale!
