Man, you'd be a fool to pay that for Varget. Yes, it's an excellent universal powder that just works, but there are lots of viable options without the huge markup.

Jesus!, I switched from Varget to Viht N140 a few years ago, for £69.95 I get twice as much powder!!.

As it and other Hodgdon powders disappear thanks to REACH, there appear to be three responses from those aware of the future withdrawals. (Lord help us when the rest find out, presumably some time after the last supplies have gone!)
A high percentage of handloaders have already recognised that they can survive life post VarGet (and H4350 et al) and that there are plenty of alternatives which they're already switching to if they've not already done so. (I stopped using most Hodgdon powders some years back thanks to the combination of above inflation prices rises and chronic shortages.)
Some who heard of REACH early (or who took action to counter the regular shortages) and who would really miss VarGet bought up every tin they saw that was selling at 'normal' prices. They are no doubt still doing this if they have the funds and will amass a large enough stock to see their barrels out.
Then there will be those whose usage is small and a couple of tins will last several years, who also don't want the fag and expense of working up a new load with a different powder. Some (not all) of these people will be prepared to pay almost anything within reason to get a modest quantity but which equates to several years worth of shooting for them. We'll see a few dealers who think they can milk this market for all its worth - I'm not sure it'll actually pan out as they imagine though.
Take heed though that once the majority of Hodgdon and IMR propellants have dropped out of the normal supply chain, there is almost certain to be a hiatus in the market. Add already existing powerful inflationary pressures in the system many of which have nothing to do with REACH but which will be aggravated by it and prices are going to increase substantially too for all makes.

Look up Hannam Reloading's latest price list on its website. Current RRPs for rifle powders are:
N100 series .............. £89.95
N500 series .............. £92.95
24N41 / 20N29 ......... £105.95
per Kg.
If you run to a 3.5Kg bottle (only available for N140 / 150 / 160), it is now £269.50 which equates to £77 / Kg.

At £77/Kg 2lb works out at £70/lb so twice as much for the same money 
I stocked up on powder, primers and bullets earlier this year, the 3.5Kg tubs of N140 and N150 were £225 :)

Not two years ago, N140 was £185 for 3.5 kg. ITL have / had it for £235... and now it's up to £270.
OMG...at that rate, it's worth laying down some tubs of powder for a few years rather than a good wine or whisky.
Having said that, by then either no one will be able to afford to shoot or the HO would have turned us into 1930s Germany... all under the pretence of stopping the terrorists getting their hands on / the police are afraid that etc.!
