Do you have to have a shot gun certificate to hold shot gun cartridges. If you buy them on the day do you have to shoot them all off. Does it work the same as firearms ammo bought on the range you shoot them off or they go on your ticket.

No, a SGC is not required to keep them, (provided they're not section 1 cartridges) but is needed to buy them.

As long as there are more than 9 pellets in the cartridge they are classed as section 2 ammunition and you can buy/hold any amount and they do not go on shotgun certificate (although you do have to produce it when you purchase them) and do not have to be locked in a cabinet.

I think it's 5 or more, not 9 pellets.

Do you have a SGC?
If not and you take any you have not shot home the police may take a dim view..

2nd that.(Missed the first question.)
you need an least an SGC to acquire but not to possess. you could go an buy a slab of X with your significant other and have them take them back home for you (unaccompanied).

Are you making up rules? - Don't hold shotgun cartridges even if you have a higher category of licence.
Where is the risk to public safety on this issue?

It’s more than likely that the police would take no view at all as no offence has been committed...
