Anyone know anybody in the SE that can put some choke threads into a shotgun barrel please.

Also anyone here had it done and how much am I looking at?

The only place I've heard of that does that is Teague. They are in Birmingham though.

Their price list is nearly double what I thought... £156 per barrel, excluding choke!

Seems reasonable.. a friend has just spent 6 months sorting his .308 after a gunsmith screwed up a thread for a moderator. Useful if he wanted to shoot round corners, but not so good for the mod.

Actually they are in Malmesbury in Wiltshire. Their registered office being in Birmingham.

Everything is relative. You could risk your friendly local machinist doing it of course. But he's going to want at a minimum the relevant reamer and tap at £238 and £256 respectively from Brownells for a Remington choke. Oh, and then there's the cost of reproofing which I believe is in the Teague price?

I considered (Briefly!) taking this sort of work on having been asked by a couple of customers in the past. Even with our new machine my choice would still be to find someone reputable that is experienced with the process, Teague are certainly as good as any. I have a feeling they have been taken over or/and Nigel has retired however they still have a superb reputation.

Given the tooling and setup time and proofing, their prices ain’t bad....

True and on a gun of some value then it can seem an economic proposition. The cost is frustrating though if you want to add choke to say an old single barrel pump action that cost less than the price of Teague's service.

I suppose the other options are finding something like an old Cutts Compensator or C-lect choke and having it fixed on, jug choking or backing off the speed of cartridges to give a denser pattern.

Jug choking seems to have died out since the advent of screw in chokes. How about an experiment Ovenpaa, with that single barrel you were talking of scrapping?
