That looks like the barrel that Ron Smith from Alberta made, a few years ago?

i think calling it a barrel is a bit much, it isn't like he rifled it, it's just got a sleeve thrown in it
I watched it a few nights ago, and the silly thing in vid 3 is he makes reference to 'ppl will moan if i don't show me shooting it' yet doesn't show him shooting at a target and the results.

When I was working in the Gypsum industry we used drill rods about 10 feet long to bore holes for the blasting charge. These rods were 1" diameter hexagonal steel with a hole right through the centre - a barrel by any other name. I would have thought they would be a good contender for a cheap barrel, open the hole up and slide in a liner and you're nearly there, really good quality steel too.

We had various similar drills in the South African mines. You'd have to be built like King Kong to use 'em as barrels, though!

I have also used similar hollow drills on a Holman 303 rotary percussive drill. Quite a handful.....even with an airleg.

IIRC the machines used to make some modern rifle barrels are from the 30s and 40s as technology has not really moved on since and the machines were built so well they still work perfectly.

Schultz & Larsen still run cut rifling machines that were purchased by weight at the end of the first world war having previously been used to rifle barrels for the G98.
