Having just become the owner of a 12 Bore Westley Richards Boxlock ejector side by side dating to 1918 I wondered if anyone else on the forum is shooting English shotguns.

Yep, I have an 1890 WP Jones and also another one who name escapes me just now but its similar age, Damascus barrels and black powder proof.
I love shooting side by sides.

I have a lovely London Gun Company BLNE 12 bore side by side. From what I recall it’s actually a private label gun from one of the Birmingham makers of the time. Mid-1920s I believe.

Not a big name or particularly desirable gun, but in great condition and shoots fantastically well.

Someone rather snobbishly once declared it to be fit for banging into the ground as a fencepost.. until I comfortably outshot him :)

I have killed a few clays along with furred and feathered beasts using black powder cartridges in this fine 10 bore.

The Picture simply does not do it justice. 28" barrels, 2.5" 3 ton chambers so proper 1oz loads only, chokes are 3/4 and open so a driven gun, probably originally for Partridge or maybe Grouse, splinter fore end and Deeley Latch and wood that looks nicer on the bench than it does in the picture. The top latch is lifting slightly so the screw needs replacing and some muppet has blued some of the screws so they will have to be stripped and blacked. It has arrived a little late for this season however I may take it out for Pigeons and certainly have it ready for the coming season :)

That rely is rather nice.

We shoots a nice pair of 12 bore, Damascus barrelled hammerguns, 1880s vintage by Blissett. They cost 68 guineas when new, a very tidy sum, and still shoot as well now as they did back them. The pheasants hate 'em.



We also have Darne 12 bore with the patent Whitworth sliding breech we use for pottin' clays. Always a conversation starter and much classier than an over and under or gas gun. Froggy would approve.

I can't compete with Badger's relics, but I do shoot an elderly Cogswell & Harrison boxlock in preference to a modern O/U claybuster. Probably no more accurate for me, but it has considerably more style.
