Hi

I'm looking for information on the old A and B classes. I'm aware of the rifles with target sights being B, but am specifically looking for info on the use of slings in either class.

Many thanks

Donald

Cheers. Looks like adding an extra sr into the search string makes a difference.

That site like others implies that in SR(a) slings as issued can be fitted, but not used for support. I am still looking for a definite answer

Have a look at this

I did try to cut and paste the relevant bits but was not able to 'Submit' it.

Thanks Robert

it still seems to be some confusion. However, the HBSA regs actually state the sling can be used as an aid, so I think we'll go with that.

Cheers

Hello Donald, from memory we do not allow slings to be used in the Scottish Historic Championship that we hold every September at Castlelaw ranges near Edinburgh.
Keep in touch and I'll send entry details nearer the time. The other thing I'd like to try would be to get some inter club competition. I'll see if any Vintage Arms Scotland members would be prepared to travel. To take pressure off new shooters when I ran the New Pistol Club we used have teams of 5 or 6 with the best 4 scores to count. We could also try a Mauser shoot and a Lee Enfield shoot. Do you think your guys would be interested ?

One other thing is your range wheelchair accessible? I ask as I'm now i a powered wheelchair.

Robert

The sling rule for SR"a" has been relaxed in recent years by the HBSA, LERA & surprisingly by the NRA.

When the NRA was putting together the twice yearly Historic Enfield match it was suggested that we should abide by the original rules and not use the sling for additional support. It was decided that this would be unpopular given that most people now use a sling for support in historic shooting.

Most squaddies would as well Mick, I was taught to do it from day one, you dont have many variations as long as it is a correctly fitted issue for that rifle...apart from some of the turner variants but that should only be foreign or No4(T) rifles I guess.
